If you are curious about what exactly Kombucha (sometimes referred to as ‘Booch’) is, how you can find Kombucha, or how to brew your own Kombucha, then look no further.

You are exactly where you need to be right now, so let’s get right to it.

What is Kombucha?

What exactly is this Kombucha that more and more people are drinking?

Kombucha is a tasty, effervescent, probiotic filled, fermented tea that can be flavored to a wide variety of different flavors.

A sweet tea brewed from either green tea, black tea or a combination of both is fermented with something called a SCOBY.

What is a SCOBY?

If you are completely new to the world of Kombucha, you may be wondering “WTF is a SCOBY?” I know that my curiosity peaked when I first saw it.

SCOBY is an acronym for Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast.

The SCOBY is added to the sweet tea blend, it is left to ferment for 7-10 days, or until the desired flavor is reached. The longer you leave it to ferment, the more tangy  will become.

Typically, kombucha is a bit tart with a hint of sweetness.

The flavor will be affected by both the length of fermentation and by any flavors added after fermentation is complete.

Fermentation time is  a matter of preference, but typically, 5- 7 days is the recommendation.

Why Kombucha?

Why is everyone drinking Kombucha? and more importantly, why should you?

This delicious, sparkling beverage is packed with antioxidants and probiotics.

Why are these things important?

Antioxidants help to fight free radicals in addition to assisting in the prevention of heart disease, cancer, and some other infections.

Probiotics are essential to gut health. Gut health is affected by the different types of bacteria and the amount of these bacteria in our gut. These bacteria are responsible for things like mood, inflammation, immune system and metabolism.

One serving of Booch’ daily has been shown to improve mood, reduce inflammation, regulate bowels, boost immunity and increase metabolism

How do I get some Kombucha?

If the what and the why sound intriguing to you, let’s get into the how.
How can you get your hands on this delicious and beneficial beverage?
Kombucha can be found in a variety of flavors at your local grocery store, and of course- on Amazon.
At between $2.50 – $4.00 USD per bottle, regular purchases can prove to be quite costly, which is why many people prefer to brew their booch at home.

Kombucha Home Brewing

Brewing your own Kombucha at home may seem intimidating at first, but it is actually quite simple!
I have created an easy to follow, 3-page, printable guide for beginners that can be downloaded for FREE right here
This guide will get you started on your Kombucha brewing adventure.

If you do decide to take the home brewing route for your Kombucha, you will need to acquire a SCOBY
SCOBY can be obtained from a friend, or you can head on over to good ole’ Amazon (because you can find almost anything there).
In addition to or rather than purchasing a SCOBY by itself, you can also purchase an entire brewing kit for less money than you would spend on a case of already bottled Kombucha.

Enjoy the Process, and enjoy your new and improved gut health.

Happy Brewing!
